Popsicle stick hexagon shelf is everywhere lately and I was so inspired by this beautiful wall art that I had to make it myself.I was looking for something to put on the kid’s room wall so I came up with this DIY.
I also made a video. You can watch it at the end of this post. This time I made another three to display my succulents at my balcony and I’m obsessed with them.I really love how they turned out.
It’s super easy and it costs nearly nothing. It took me only 20 minutes to make one hexagon shelf. So here it is…
HEXAGON SHELF SUPPLIES
- Popsicle sticks (about 100)
- Hot glue gun (wood glue or tacky glue)
- Glue gun sticks
- Wood stain (optional)
- Paint brush (optional)
- picture hanger (optional)
Step 1. Layout six sticks and create a hexagon.Make sure all the sides are even.
Step 2. Glue all the sticks carefully with each other.I recommend using hot glue because it dries immediately.
Step 3. The base is complete and now start adding layers around the perimeter until you get your desired depth.Mine is 18 layers and I used 108 popsicle sticks.
Step 4. You can paint the hexagon shelf any color you desire with wood stain, acrylic paint or even with a nail polish.I missed this step because I like it natural.
I love them because they are so versatile. They can be used freestanding or can be mounted on the wall. There are many ways you could personalize these hexagon shelves. You can put a scrapbook paper or wallpaper behind for more fun pattern. Also, you can make as many as you like and glue them together so you will get a honeycomb shape and hang them on your wall with picture frames. And there you have your own gallery wall with lots of texture and warmth.
Step 5. Hang it on the wall with two nails like I did or glue a picture hanger if you’d prefer.
I made three and I let my daughter decorate them and I think they turned out pretty nice, don’t you think? Please leave a comment down below.
