DIY Wooden Lantern
Hey everyone! Today I want to show you how to make a wooden lantern. It’s so easy and you can do it in no time! You can put it indoors or outdoors. It’s up to you!
Want to make a wooden lantern like this? Watch my tutorial video below:
Here is what you’re going to need.
Supplies:
- 36 1″ x 3/4″ piece of wood cut in 7 3/4″ long strips
- 7 3/4″ x 5 1/2″ piece of MDF
- rope
- glue gun
- glue sticks
First, take four pieces of wood and form a square. I had mine been cut at my local hardware store, or you can use a miter saw if it happens to own one.
You then need to hot glue the wood but just keep in mind that all the pieces of wood are sitting straight one upon the other.
Repeat gluing the wood until they are all finished. I used 36 pieces and my lantern is approximately 10 inches tall.
You then need to glue the MDF at the bottom of the lantern. I used hot glue but I highly recommend using wood glue or E 6000 because when I put the candle inside the lantern, it collapsed. So, learn from my mistakes and go for those two.
Eventually, I used wood glue and a pile of books on top to secure it and then left it overnight to dry.
The next day it was all set. Now, all you have to do is to cut a piece of rope and tie a knot at the left side of the lantern and then at the right side.
And you’re done! Put your candle inside and enjoy your masterpiece! I used a LED candle to prevent the fire because wood is not a heat friendly material I would say. Also, you can paint the lantern any color you like but I wanted mine raw and natural to get that scandi style look I was after.
Well, this is it! I’m so in love with this lantern and I love the ambiance it’s creating to my balcony. I can’t stop looking at it! I’m addicted!
What about you? Would you give it a shot?
